New 2D fighting games definitely need more of a vector paint artstyle instead of a pixel art style if we will ever have any more of them. Even then, the animation budget is much higher when you aren't just working with small pixels. But, maybe something like Rakuga Kids would be good for an indie dev to do. Something that can be done using vector paint, so every character/attack/UI element can be scaled without distorting or showing pixels.

My favorite type is the most underused in games. The mechanical neutral. We know Genji in Overwatch is a low defense high damage counter elite skill character dashing around and parrying for sick video montages. But in Brawlhalla my favorite is just the fists. The weapons can technically be superior but also focused. Bigger hit area for larger wind up time and more damage for for being able to cancel longer attacks. Fists are perfect. Enough to skill around everyone and deal good damage but just tanky enough to recover more easily. I wish more games had this high skill Genji on more neutral stats.

I'm sorry, but I'm getting hung up on you calling the old Disney movies using "worse technology". The downsides of hand-drawn animation is only that it's time-intensive and it's being relatively costly. But in the end, you get an objectively more beautiful and timeless look that holds up to most modern looks today. With fighting games, traditional 2D techniques have many similar downsides to old movies including one: sprite flipping. Characters are almost always just mirrored for the right character.

Honestly would prefer it if more 2D games went with a handrawn style like Cuphead and Skullgirls, instead of only using pixel sprites or 2.5D models. It just looks a whole lot smoother, and will age even better than the alternative.

From what I saw, I think putting TMNT in the platform fighter format is a good call. But unlike MultiVersus, it doesn't need to be another shitty Live-Service game. It should be like Smash, where it has an online community, but it isn't infested with issues like microtransactions.

Don’t forget tmnt x justice league turbo! The best turtles fighting game and it’s a fangame combining tournaments fighters and a not too great justice league game. Don’t worry though, everyone got a nice glow up, alongside there being new characters entirely. Very very worth checking out if you’re waiting for a new tmnt fighter. That said, I hope they get a new game one day!

Isn't it kinda weird how every TMNT fighting game uses the 80s variants? Like, I get it when they're trying to appeal to nostalgia, but Nickelodeon All Star Brawl didn't even use the 2012 or Rise turtles, despite those being the shows that they made. It pisses me off as a fan if both.

This is kinda my dilemma with KOF. I love KOF but to me nothing is close to beating KOFXIII for me in terms of animation and art style. I much prefer that look to what we have now honestly.

I hate the push for games to be more "realistic". Often times characters just look plain ugly and fall into the uncanny valley. Street Fighter looks far better with the over-exaggated, colorful cartoony look than the "realistic" depictions in 6.

You can cancel your taunts into any special move but not normals or basic movement in jojo hftf. This means you can taunt to hide the input of any special, even charge moves or supers. I like doing this with Dio's raging demon or polnareff's charge moves.

Asuka R# is a really weird character from Guilty Gear Strive that is both a glass cannon and a tank. With mana, he is by far the most beefy character in the game, taking only 75% damage. However, when he's out of mana, it turns around completely, making him by far the most squishy character in the game, taking 150% damage.

I'm not great at fighting games, so I just annoy my friends by using throws whenever my friends whiff in Street Fighter, to make them regret their mistakes..... and I may or may not try to condition them into some bahaviour, only to then exploit it, later. Not sure if it's smart, but it's fun.

itd be sick to see a street fighter in an arcsystem works style. I've personally never liked how street fighter looks in 3D. Street fighter 6 looks the best out of the 3D street fighters. But something about the bulky characters is still kinda off putting to me. The 2D sprites is where the characters look best to me

I wish you went in depth on Yuuki Terumi's kit here, because everything the xharacter has is designed to piss the opponent off. Disrespectful stomps, him grinding his feet on the opponent, massive meter buildup, taunts baked into some of his moves... He's not very strong but can make the opponent tilt if played well!

Mu-12 isn't an evil counterpart. She is more of an emotionless tool - what Noel was created for in the first place. Also Mu-12 was never split from Noel, it was more of a projection of her anxieties, that she had to accept within. BB lore is kinda complicated, so I don't think anyone would be mad for misunderstanding, most likely I made some error on my own, but yeah, Mu-12 is not evil, and it's not even counterpart. It's like calling Tsubaki and Izayoi counterparts, or Jin and [REDACTED].

Yes! Finally a video about extra mini games in fighting games and you brought up MK! So many other creators never bring them up. One of my favorites is the challenge tower from MK9. It's had stuff like shooting Cyrax's bomb into moving buckets and shooting zombies coming at Stryker. I don't know why NRS hasn't brought it back.
